History: Pip Gofern was born a prince on the humanoid populated world of Laxidazia and was 260th in line for the throne of the world monarchy. A member of the idle rich. Pip spent most of his time painting pictures of the night sky. During one of his many sojourns across the countryside looking for a good spot to paint. Pip came upon an encampment of trolls a degenerate sub species of the Laxidazian race Taking an immediate liking to these people, Pip engaged in food, drink, and dance with the trolls, imbibing vast quantities of their special ale. When Pip awoke the next day with a hangover, he discovered that the ale he drank the night before must have had mutagenic properties, for he had taken on trollish characteristics: his feet had become hoof-like, his fourth and fifth finger had grown together, his ears had become longer and his lust for pleasure had grown profoundly.
Eventually returning to the royal court, Pip halfheartedly tried to hide his condition but his lewd behavior could not be stifled. Stripped of rank and exiled from the court Pip stowed away aboard a merchant starship and began a life of wandering and debauchery. Eventually, missionaries from the Universal Church of Truth came to Laxidazia and began to convert the natives to the new faith. The agents of the Church found the tribes of trolls and soon learned that they were resilient to any conversion process. The Church ordered them exterminated, and the Grand Inquisitors were happy to oblige It is not known if they succeeded in destroying all of the trolls on Laxidazia, but the word went out throughout the religious empire that all trolls were to be executed. Pip in the meantime, had gotten himself into trouble on scores of planets most of which were under the Church's jurisdiction. Eventually taken captive by agents of the Church. Pip was sent aboard the Death Ship a space vessel containing renegades, atheists and degenerates who were due to be executed.
Aboard the ship Pip met Adam Warlock, the artificially created human being from Earth whose alternate future self would become the founder of the Universal Church. Seeing Warlock as a means to escape the ship as well as a means to find adventure. Pip became Warlock's companion in his efforts to thwart his alternate self, the Magus. When the threat of the Magnus was quelled, Pip and Warlock went drinking together on the humanoid populated world Sirus X and then parted company. Pip became engaged in a number of misadventures on his own, and then decided to renew his acquaintance with Warlock, he went to the ship of Warlock's one time ally Thanos, Pip entered it to see if his friend was aboard. Warlock was not but Thanos was. Finding no use for a troll, Thanos used a tiny fraction of his power to destroy Pip's brain. Warlock eventually found him and used his Soul Gem to absorb Pip's spirit into it. There, Pip's spirit dwelled peacefully within the verdant dimension of the soul gem alongside the spirits of his friends, Adam Warlock and Gamora.
The trio would remain in the Soul Gem for several blissful years, until Mistress Death restored Thanos to life once more in order to realize her goal to eliminate half of all sentient life throughout the Universe. Alerted to the threat by the Silver Surfer, Warlock resurrected himself, Pip, and Gamora and restructured the bodies of 3 recently-slain humans for their purposes. Pip went on to accompany Warlock as he gathered a great assemblage of Earth's remaining heroes and the Universe's most powerful cosmic beings to thwart Thanos, who had gained omnipotence via the assembled Infinity Gems. Eventually, the heroes triumphed, and Warlock himself claimed the Infinity Gauntlet as the dust settled. Eventually, Warlock was compelled to split the gems up among several guardians, and Pip himself was given the Space Gem, which allowed him to teleport anywhere in the cosmos, so long as he could visualize his destination.
Pip became a valued member of Warlock's "Infinity Watch", and proved his mettle on several occasions in battles against the Magus, the Goddess, the extra-dimensional Count Abyss, Zakaius and Domitian. Pip's cleverness and survival instincts served him especially well when the Watch was forced to stop the rampages of the Thunder God, Thor, who had been driven unto madness following the Goddess' manipulations. Facing utter defeat after Thor managed to steal the Power Gem from Drax the Destroyer, Pip teleported the Silver Surfer and Thor to the lair of the one being who might be able to halt the Asgardian in his tracks: Thanos. Thanos did indeed succeed in capturing Thor, and the Watch took him to Asgard where Odin finally healed his son's fractured mind.
However, the Watch eventually met its end when the vampiric being called Rune arrived from the Ultraverse, and made off with all six Infinity Gems. Following this event, the Infinity Watch was disbanded as Warlock journeyed to the Ultraverse alone in an attempt to reclaim the stolen gems. Pip decided to keep a sullen Gamora company for a time, until the pair were once more reunited with Warlock as he investigated the death of Elysius (Lover of Mar-Vell, and mother of Genis-Vell), a murder that had been erroneously pinned on former Watch member Drax the Destroyer. Warlock, Pip and Gamora managed to track down the true culprit, a villain from the Negative Zone called Syphonn. Following Syphonn's defeat, the trio stayed together for a short time, but eventually parted ways once more.
Some time later, Pip resurfaced in the employ of Thanos (Who later turned out to be one of 5 malevolent clones of the Mad Titan), and was sent to the Corporation for Mental Stability on the planet Degaitor, where he found that Adam Warlock had spent the last 2 years hibernating inside one of his protective cocoons. Pip took the cocoon back to the faux Thanos, and looked on as Moondragon awakened Warlock, who now suffered from partial amnesia. Pip helped Warlock retrace his steps in order to help him figure out what had driven him to madness 2 years before, and the pair eventually found the answer when they discovered Eternity and Infinity, the living embodiments of Life and Time, locked in a schizoid state due to the impending collapse of reality. Warlock soon found that a being called Atlez served as the anchor of reality, but that his time was drawing to an end and that his successor, a young child named Atleza, desperately needed to take his place. Pip went on to assist Warlock and Thanos' efforts to defeat the Thanosi clones, and prevent the collapse of the cosmos. In the end, the group proved victorious. Warlock and Gamora joined Atleza in order to watch over her as her powers developed, and Pip remained in the freelance employ of Thanos, who evidently pays well.
A few months later, Pip's services would again be required when Thanos and Warlock discovered that Galactus was collecting the Infinity Gems in the hopes that he could feed of them and thus end his monstrous need to feed on planets. In truth, Galactus was being duped by an extra-dimensional Parasite called Hunger, and Pip's abilities proved to be of great value in Thanos' efforts to thwart Hunger, and thus stop the creature's plans to feed on our reality. With the task complete, Pip celebrated by teleporting to one of his favorite taverns where he promptly got falling-down drunk. He returned in this state to Thanos' starship, wand the Titan ordered his droids to take the sleeping troll to the nearest trash-disposal chute, where Pip presumably found himself covered in garbage when he eventually roused himself.
