Overview What came before the Council Reborn About Huntington

Natalie the Vampire Slayer is set in the very-real town of Huntington, West Virginia, where most of our players reside. Huntington is a smallish, college town, home to Marshall University, the second-largest University in the state.

Huntington is an ideal setting for a Buffy campaign. Marshall University has a bustling campus, and the city itself is built alongside the Ohio River. Ohio is less than 10 minutes from campus, and Kentucky is a mere 25 minutes away. Huntington is home to a large, wooded park ( Ritter Park ), which is flanked by many expensive homes, and is surrounded by thickly forested hills in many directions. Huntington is also just a couple of hours away from Pt. Pleasant WV, home to the mothman sightings back in the 1960's. Despite being the 2nd largest city in the state, Huntington has something of an old-fashioned charm.

A small portion of the Spring Hill Cemetery

Much of the game revolves around Marshall's campus, since that's where Xander works, and many of the scoobies either work or attend classes. There's a lot of great game settings right at or aound campus, including the Morrow Library itself ( where Xander keeps his tomes of occult lore ) with its labyrnthine corridors; the Science Building, the parking building, and the student center. The spacious Spring Hill Cemetery on Norway Avenue is just a few minutes from campus, and its rolling hills provide ample opportunites to patrol for newly-risen vampires or zombies. Ritter Park is also just a few minutes from campus, and most of it is covered in trees... ideal stomping grounds for werewolves and other nasty beasts. And last, but certainly not least, the bickering city-officials provide ample fodder for tales of demon-influenced corruption. Several major attempts to help revitalize the local economy ( Pullman Square, Kinetic Park ) seem to be continually delayed or thwarted in some fashion.

In short, Huntington is a prime location for a brand-new Hellmouth. But how did we get to this point?

The supporting cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, season 7

The genesis of our story begins after the defeat of the First Evil and its army of Ubervamps, the destruction of Sunnydale, and the near-chaos that followed. A few days following those events, Buffy, Willow, Xander, Dawn, Kennedy, and Andrew went with Giles to England, to rebuild what remained of the shattered Watchers Council. Meanwhile, Wood and Faith, and the small, remaining group of former potentials remained behind to begin the difficult task of tracking down and contacting the new Slayers that had sprung up in the Americas.

Giles was named head of the new Council, and has spearheaded the rebuilding process, as well as setting new guidelines by which the Council operates. Fortunately, Giles has had a lot of help from friends from both sides of the Atlantic. Having established a new staff, and a new class of trainees, the new Watchers Council is currently stable, but with its greatly-reduced manpower, it has its hands quite full. Its a different world now, a world with many Slayers in it that need guidance. Also, several smaller hellmouths erupted in a handful of other areas, which is why Huntington now has one.

Our story begins 14 months later, and Sunnydale has become a legendary mystery with a host of conspiracy theories that defy the "official" explaination. Xander has his own charge to watch over, and to train, and a Hellmouth that bears watching. This is where the fun truly begins.
