The Slayer
(Played by - Emily)
Read Natalie's Online Journal.

Natalie was born into a rather wealthy family in the Poca, WV area. Her parents had made their fortune over the years with a contracting business that eventually grew into a multi-million dollar company. Her parents, though often busy, made sure she had almost every advantage they could fairly manage. Soon after she was born, her parents hired a butler named Michael, who was a major influence in how she was raised, and for all intents and purposes became a third parent.

Though she grew up in a well-to-do environment, Natalie never became aloof or snobbish. In fact, being somewhat quiet, though friendly, she found many of the social functions her parents enjoyed to be awkward affairs. Fortunately, her parents' estate was remote enough to afford her the opportunity to avoid many of the social gatherings, and to spend time on her true passion, the care of her horses.

The estate included stables and land for a few horses, and some other livestock as well which the family kept around because of their farming background. Like her parents, she enjoyed raising and caring for the pigs, chickens, and cattle, which they kept for its own sake, and did not slaughter for food, although they did enjoy the fresh eggs the chickens provided, and the fresh milk from the cows. She also worked in the gardens some, although she didn't enjoy that nearly as much as she did her time with the horses. Her education came courtesy of a small, but well-regarded private school, where she found she had a real knack for meticulous math, accounting, and organization. She also became a model of physical fitness, excelling in gymnastics, horseback riding, track, and archery, in which she went on to become a two-time State Champion. She was somewhat shy around boys, and only went out on a few dates before her senior year beckoned. Despite her shyness, none of the boys she dated... all the sons of well-to-do friends of her parents... really held her interest. At heart, she wanted something more... something different.

In June of 2003 something different did indeed come her way, as Natalie underwent a huge change...the full ramifications of which would not become known to her for over a year.

She was working with the horses that morning. It was about 11:00 am, sunny and breezy, and she was busy cleaning the stables, and moving bails of hay. Despite her tall, athletic frame, the work was hard and tiring, and she enjoyed the workout it always gave her. Soon, however, a strange rush came over her, and shook her out of her routine. Her fatigue strangely ebbed away, and when she finally returned to moving the hay-bails, she found that she could not only shift them with ease, but lift and move them with almost no effort at all. Over time, she discovered that she was not only far stronger, but quicker, more alert, and even more agile than before. She could react like lightning in gymnastics, and she started to use a more powerful bow in archery. She worked at making sure the changes weren't TOO noticeable, but others did start to become even more envious of her talents.

Following her graduation, she promptly enrolled in Marshall's College of Business, and her parents not only got her a nice apartment downtown in the West Virginia building, but also a nice new Hummer 2 as a graduation present. As happy as she was about all of this, she couldn't quite ease a sense of restlessness, which was most prominent at night. Many of her friends who had graduated the year before and had been taking classes at Marshall had spoken of the increase of strange occurances in town. People who vanished seemingly without a trace, and a general sense that something was very amiss in the area. A few weeks before the start of fall classes, Natalie let her restlessness get the better of her, and she started to take long walks around town after dark, especially around campus. She took note of some of the strange individuals she came across as she wandered, watching many of them closely and from afar. She was confident, but cautions...her instincts telling her that there was something unnatural about many of these people. The first day of class came and passed without anything other than the usual confusion that the first day of classes at a major university carried with it. The Night, however, was a different story.

Natalie went out again that night, and followed a strange group of three men from Morrow Library, over to Smith Hall, her instincts screaming that something was amiss. And indeed, those instincts proved to be correct when this trio of dark-clad men cornered a young woman who was leaving Smith Hall. Natalie called out to the girl in hopes of scaring the men off, and found her heart pounding when they turned round and revealed themselves to be something other than human. Fearlessly, she attacked the trio, and battered them around. They were as strong as she was, but they seemed shocked and startled. She used that to her advantage, and attacked them brutally, injuring and frightening off two of them, and restraining the third. That's when the girl they had cornered, Heather, reappeared and tossed Natalie half of a wooden yardstick, that had been cut in half at an angle. At Heather's urging, Natalie plunged the yardstick into the creature's chest, and watched with surprise as it turned to dust beneath her.

Afterwards, Heather explained that the three creatures were real-life Vampires, and that Natalie herself seemed to be a Vampire Slayer. Her mind still reeling a bit, Natalie nonetheless decided to try to catch the other two, and Heather went with her. As they exited Smith Hall, they happened upon a rather big fellow wearing a rather loud shirt, carrying a big axe, and displaying a rather wry smile at the corners of his mouth. He introduced himself as Alexander Harris, Xander for short, and told the pair that the two vampires they were looking for were no longer a concern. A few minutes later, over a meal at Applebees. he then started to tell Natalie about what she had become, and why she felt the way she did. Though all of this was completely foreign to her, she nonethless accepted the evidence at face vale, for the logic behind it was unmistakable. And when offered with the opportunity to either go on with her life as normally as she could muster, or to follow her instincts and become a full-fleged Slayer, she chose the latter, feeling that it was her duty.

Natalie plunged full-throttle into the life of a Slayer, training regularly with Xander and her new friends after classes, and going on patrols at night to keep the Vampires and forces of Darkness at bay as best she could. Her many conversations with Xander gave her a new goal aside from eventually graduating at the top of her class from business college; living up to the Slayer legacy, and becoming as brave and strong as she possibly could, so that one day she could finally meet this Buffy Summers that Xander spoke so highly of, and make her proud. Natalie would eventually get that chance.

Over the course of the next school-year, Natalie would fight many a battle with assorted Vampires and Demons, as well as dealing with more personal matters. She quickly developed a heavy crush on the blind warlock Ramone, and the pair would go on to have something of a tumultuous relationship. Natalie would also find frustration in the form of the demon-hunter Mitran Prodan, who was filled with resentment towards Natalie's superhuman gifts. This fustration eventually came to a head when words and blows were exchanged, and a crestfallen Natalie worried that she couldn't be what Xander needed her to be, and didn't contribute to the cause. Xander took Natalie aside and told her that she already contributed, and was in fact the very reason he was there. Her confidence renewed, Natalie moved ahead, not missing a beat, and she and Mitran managed to come to a mutual understanding. Unfortunately, more problems were to come.

Soon, the group was threatened by the return of the near-immortal warlock, Edgar Torgeir Montgomery, and his group of followers called "The Order of the Spear". At his hands, Natalie was forced to face her greatest fear: a mundane future lacking any sense of real worth or purpose. She managed to fight through that, and eventually the efforts against Edgar came to a head when he made a move on the Hellmouth in an attempt to close the Earth-realm off from all supernatural influence. Edgar proved to be invulnerable, even against the power of the ancient Slayer-Scythe. However, it was soon found that his weakness would be a mundane weapon in the hands of a mortal man. That man was Mitran, who struck the death-blow and ended Edgar's threat, though the cost was high. When the dust had settled, Mitran was paralysed, Twitch lay in a coma, and a vengeful Beth had vanished.

Over the next few weeks, Mitran would miraculously recover, Twitch would return (albeit inside a robot body of his own manufacture), and Beth would resurface. As the group fought through a new wave of troubles, including a clan of vicious werewolves who were hot on the trail of a young slayer called Calamity, and the Necromancer, Johnathan Smythe. What Natalie didn't know however, is that Beth was becoming increasingly unstable and had sworn revenge upon her. When the reborn Order of Aurelius surfaced and made its initial moves, Beth also took the opportunity to put her plans for revenge into motion, siding with the Order in a secret pact. After that, things became increasingly chaotic in a short amount of time. Natalie soon found that she had raised the hackles of Detective Sean Williams, and he quickly became involved in the building situation. Things came to a head one evening when the group found themselves caught in a trap set by the Order, and they had to fight off not only a large gang of Vamps, Demons, and Zombies, but also the now Vampiric Calamity, Elizabeth, and Dorian. Natalie and the others were victorious, but were caught flatfooted when Beth revealed what she had become, and were too exhausted to resist the attack that laid them all low.

Natalie, to her credit, did not surrender to frustration, and seemed galvanised by the recent troubles. The Scoobies regrouped, using fresh intel supplied by Angel Investigations to finalize their plan to move against the Order, and their ruler, the ancient Vampire-King called Varnae. With her new allies, David Sullivan, the ensouled Vampire named Spike, and Vlad Dracula himself, Natalie became the core of a strike-force designed to end the Order's threat. When the Order made its final move against the Hellmouths that they had targeted for opening, Natalie and her squad penetrated the Order's Bavarian HQ and took the fight directly to Varnae's forces. With a little help from Groo and the Knights of Byzantium, the small group fought their way through the castle, defeating Beth and freeing her from the demonic parasite that had plagued her in the process, and finally engaging Varnae himself.

Natalie engaged Varnae in one-to-one combat, but found that the Vampire King seemed to be invulnerable to harm, immediately healing any injury. Ramone, however, managed to frustrate Varnae's plans by closing the Bavarian Hellmouth, a move that enraged the Vampire-King. Natalie soon found herself knocked to the ground, facing death along the edges of Varnae's scimitar. However, that's when Buffy Summers arrived, carrying the one weapon that ignored Varnae's invulnerability: The Slayer Scythe. With Buffy's aid, Natalie defeated Varnae, and reduced him to a pile of dust. Buffy offered her kudos, and Natalie found that she had indeed made her role-model proud.

With the Order defeated, things changed rather drastically in the next few days. Mitran remained in Europe to busy himself with his new diplomatic duties; Heather accepted a position with Penn State; Beth and Twitch would transfer to OSU to begin new lives, and Xander moved along to his next assigment as Watcher-at-Large, leaving David Sullivan behind as Natalie's permanent Watcher. In a frustrating development, Ramone would decide to take the next year off school in order to do some travelling to "find himself". This left Natalie and David as the lone remaining Scoobies in Huntington, though they would get assistance as needed from Sean Williams and his partner Chris Owens.

Over the next year, Natalie and David developed a strong working-friendship as Slayer and Watcher, and the pair crafted a tight emotional bond based on mutual respect and trust. In battle, they became a very deadly duo as they quickly adapted to one-another's fighting-styles, and learned to work together for the greatest advantage. However, with the start of another school-year, their duo is set to expand once again, and the manner in which they have grown accustomed to operating is about to change.

Personality

Natalie has always been rather quiet and sometimes reserved. Uncomfortable in many social situations, she always seemed to live by the old phrase "It is better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.". However, when riding her horses, or indulging her talent for athletics, Natalie would emerge from her shell, and truly felt vital and alive. In most respects, she's been a very normal girl, although she's had more opportunities than the average child, thanks to her parents' wealth. Still, as quiet as she could be, she was usually very friendly, and optimistic, and she has a lot of courage and confidence.

Though Natalie has been through a lot in a short amount of time, and some of her experiences as a Slayer have left her a little harder than she was before, she remains essentially the same at her core: A girl with a good heart who strives to do what's right, no matter how difficult the right thing might turn out to be.

Skills and Abilities

Natalie now has all the standard abilities that come with the Slayer package: Superhuman strength, speed, stamina, durability, and recovery. Slayers have stronger immune systems than normal humans, and thus, they save a lot of money on Nyquil. They can also tolerate greater extremes of temperature. Natalie was a talented athlete before she became a Slayer, and when she became one, those skills were sharpened even further. Natalie also knew some very basic fighting moves beforehand, and has improved upon those skills with Xander's help. Natalie also has a photographic memory, which really comes in handy during those long hours of research.
