Episode 1.7 - "Look! Up in the Sky!"
(started on 9-27-03)
As the last Vamp dusts away, Natalie turns to Elizabeth and says, "Who are you?"
While Elizabeth introduces herself, Twitch and Ramone run to Dwane's Hummer to check the police scanner, where they then find Nick's convoy was raided and he was freed. Ramone immediately says that he's going to a phone booth, and as Twitch protests, Ramone distracts him by pointing and shouting "ZOMBIES!". Ramone takes that opportunity to dart away to a phone booth, where he takes off his clothes, revealing his new, magic-augmented hero-costume.
Twitch returns and tells them Ramone has vanished (an act he attributes to invisible speedster-zombies), which worries Natalie. Dwane emerges from the train car, exhausted and bloodied, but manages to tell Xander that nothing living had been in that car for days at least, which means the call to the police was a sham. Natalie attempts to help Xander with Dwane, but is shouldered aside by Mitran who tells her she isn't needed. Annoyed, Natalie then leaves to find Ramone. Twitch then relates the news of the botched prison-transfer to the others, and Beth, upset over this news, collapses.
Meanwhile, Ramone, as Mr Fabulous flies to the convoy-site. He questions one of the officers present, and then flips the overturned hostess-trailer back onto its wheels, shocking onlookers, and flies off in search of the mysterious van. The trail goes dead shortly after he discovers the van, abandoned on old Route 60, but he does find a piece of ABC gum in the ashtray.
In Huntington, Natalie finds Ramone's clothes, which intrigues her for a moment before the worry sets in. She drives around looking for him, and Mitran's rough comments start to wear on her nerves. She ends up going to Spring-Hill, scaring an emerging vamp back into his grave as she takes out her frustrations on a nearby tree. As the scoobies try to make sense of what's happened, Ramone calls to tell the others he's at Morrow, after a botched "teleportation spell" left him without his clothes. Twitch then calls Natalie, who races over to Morrow to give Ramone his clothes. She finds him there in a robe, which covers his costume, and she starts babbling nervously. Ramone impulsively kisses her, and a very keyed-up Natalie responds somewhat passionately.
The others return to the library in time to interrupt Natalie before she can discover Ramone's costume. Ramone flees to the back to put on his clothes. Mitran carries in Beth, and makes another barely-concealed derogatory statement towards Natalie. Concerned at Beth's condition, Twitch asks if Ramone can sense the energies that keep her animated, which he can. Soon, Mitran and the others take Beth to her room and lay her down. Ramone tries a locator spell to discover the whereabouts of the commandos, and encounters some strange, magical "voids", immune to mystic probes. Frustrated, the group calls it a night.
The following day finds them doing more research into the mysterious commandos. Dwane speaks to his police contact who gives him the details of the botched transfer. Both he and Dwane smell a rat. Later, Ramone finds that the null-areas correspond to the home of a city-council member, and also his office at city-hall. Beth awakens and goes to the Library, with no memory of Nick's escape, and the others keep mum. As night falls, Natalie decides to patrol, and Xander tells her she shouldn't go alone since their foes seem to know a lot about them. Reluctantly, Natalie agrees to take Mitran and Elizabeth with her on her patrol.
Meanwhile, Beth accompanies Twitch and Heather to the councilman's house with a tape-recorder that will record only truthful responses, thanks to some techno-magic. Saying that they are from the student press, they interview him about his career. Later, they find either he was telling the truth as he saw it, or the recorder didn't work as intended because of the null-area. Twitch and Heather then hack into his computer, but find nothing incriminating.
Back at Spring-Hill, Natalie tries to explain the whole slaying-gig to Elizabeth. Mitran continues to challenge and annoy Natalie at every turn. Soon, a vampire emerges, and Natalie gives him a good whallop. Mitran then grabs the Vamp, asks him who hits harder, and then punches the Vampire's head clean-off. Mitran, of course, is full of himself after this. Natalie tells him its overkill, Mitran asks her if she's jealous. Frustrated, Natalie calls Xander, and grabs some food at Taco Bell on the way back to the library. There, Natalie starts working over the heavy-bag, attempting to ignore Mitran's taunts. Sensing the tension, Dwane comes down to watch them. Soon, Ramone joins them and is a witness to Mitran's continued boasting. Eventually, Natalie finally punches the heavy bag off the ceiling. Mitran then asks Ramone to sit on his back while he does push ups. Ramone agrees, but slyly increases his weight until Mitran can't bear it any longer.
Satisfied, Ramone leaves, and Natlie tells Mitran that he is very much like the boys at the country club...full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. As Natalie turns to go, Mitran stops her, saying she had talked her boyfriend into humiliating him. Having had enough, Natalie Slaps Mitran across a table. Mitran stands up and charges, and Dwane attempts to stop them with a gunshot to the floor, which doesn't work. The others hear the gunshot and rush downstairs and witness as Mitran attempts to punch Natalie several times, who simply evades each blow until Mitran finally stops. Crestfallen, he turns to go, and Natalie grabs his shoulder and tells him she doesn't ever want to hit another human being, but if he pushes things in the future, she will, and that she won't hold back. That said, she scoops up the heavy bag, apologies and leaves.
Xander chases her down and tells her he knows Mitran had been dogging her, as had Dwane, and the two of them had hoped it would blow over before it came to blows. Natalie expresses a lot of shame and regret, and mentions that she feels useless. Xander tells her that she's only been at this game for a couple of months, and that she was still very new to it all, as he was still new to the whole watcher business. He goes on to say that he knows how hard she tries, and tells her that she's a Slayer, chosen to guard a mouth to hell and that it, and she, means something. He also says that she could have easily pummled Mitran if she had wished, but didn't, and says he is proud of her. They then go out for ice cream, where conversation drifts towards the merits of sprinkles.
As this is going on, Dwane takes Mitran aside and tells him that he was married once, and that women are crazy. They then go to Calamity Cafe and go drinking. Ramone, feeling partly responsible for escalating matters between Natalie and Mitran, becomes very determined to break through the null area of Mr. Garvy's house, which he finally does. This alerts the councilman that the scoobies may be coming. He immediately calls one of his fellow Spear members and warns them. Later Twitch decides that they should bug Mr. Garvy's home, and the others agree. They drive to his home, and start to plant the bugs, while Mitran scares up a distraction in the form of knocking out an electical transformer. Then, Dwane and Mitran fake a fight in the street to further the distraction. Unfortunately, the plan goes slightly awry and they are detected.
Within moments, a dimensional portal opens, which spits out a 12-foot T'Mak'Far demon. The scoobies engage it, while Ramone darts into the house, deploying the ASSes along the way. As the others fight and kill the demon, Ramone flies down into an underground tunnel and finds the councilman fleeing with the aid of 6 commandoes. After a brief battle, Ramone pulls the councilman away with his telekenesis, and the commandos abandon him. The captured Councilman is then forced, via a truth spell, to tell them all he knows, which he does. He tells them about the book, and the Order of the Spear, and the reason for their gathering. They then find out what the group plans...to seal off the dimension of Earth from ALL things supernatural.

Episode 1.10 - "Thanks a Bunch!"
(started on 11-03)
As the episode begins Natalie is fretting over the logistics involved in taking the entire scooby gang (minus Mitran and Dwane) to a Thanksgiving Dinner at her home in Poca. Desperate to ensure a peaceful dinner, Natalie coaches her friends on the importance of saying nothing about their supernatural activities to her butler and guardian Michael Weston. And in Twitches case, the promise of a brand new copy of CounterStrike to ensure his compliance.
The drive is uneventful save for the accidental insertion of a Britney Spears CD into Natalie's car stereo. Soon the gang reached the "Stately Osborne Manor" Ranch in Poca and were introduced to Michael, who took notice of the unusual composition of the group, and the group took notice that Natalie never mentioned that Michael was British. This began to spike Twitch's own demented suspicions about pirates, secret agents, and butler's who did it in the study with a candle stick. Afterwards Natalie and her friends spent some time riding the horses (who, despite Twitch's paranoia, were not of the undead variety). One of which introduced Xander's bottom to the cold hard ground.
Soon, the gathering moved indoors where dinner was served...and that's where the fun began.
The table was set, and Michael had quite outdone himself, for there were not one, not two, but THREE turkeys on the table with all the trimmings. Things got off to a bad start as Michael noticed Beth's deathly palor, to which Natalie made the understatement of the year with the excuse of, "She's getting over a bad case of the flu." Natalie's stress grew as Twitch unexpectadly volunteered to say the blessing. Everyone nervously bowed their heads as Twitch rambled, "Oh heavanly father, protect us from all horrible things that lurk in the darkness, while we have this wonderful meal that is most likely not served by a pirate (a suspision fueled by one too many veiwings of 'Pirates of the Caribean'), Amen."
That said, everyone began to dig in, and that's when Ramone's activities started to draw Michael's attention as he asked for food items that he could not have seen and reached for his silverware with absolutely no difficulty. Michael felt compelled to question Ramone on his remarkable adjustment of he senses, and Ramone had a quick answer for every inquiry. Natalie's stress intensified. As the dinner continued Twitch's lips started to loosen and Natalie feared the sinking of their scooby ship, which she attempted to bale out with the mentioning of the many cool in game features that Counterrstrike has to offer...repeatedly.
In a lapse of better judgement, Ramone reflexively reaches for his drink, and it telekinetically slides into his hand. An act that does not slip by unnoticed from Michael, who's previous level of suspicion jumps to unheard of heights. However, Michael keeps this incident to himself for the time being. Finally the table was cleared and desert was served, which brought with it more strangeness. Ramone decided to have one slice from each pie, and strangely was able to acurately point to each pie on his plate that he wanted ice cream with. This proved to be too much for Michael and he immediately started to question Ramone again, who again offered up plausable explainations, by demonstrating that he knew which piece was which by taste (via finger sampling). Natalie then chimed in attempting to distract Michael with questions about her parent's trip to Peru, but to no avail. Michael had a plan in mind.
Michael covertly shifted Ramone's glass to a different location. When Ramone reached for it despite this, Michael called him on it, and in response Ramone pulled his ace in the hole, the "I'm sorry that you feel that all blind people are nothing but bungling fools" ace in the hole. Michael was taken aback at this accusation and backpeddled somewhat, and Natalie absentmindedly bent her metal fork in half, which fortunately went unnoticed. Ramone decided it was a good idea to get away from the dinner table and traveled into the livingroom to play a few tunes on the piano. It was then that Natalie noticed that Michael had yet to touch his food and thusly forced him to eat while she fixed everyone coffee and hot cocoa.
With dinner over, everyone retired to the spacious (to put it lightly) living room where Natalie suggested a game of charades in hopes of distracting Michael from his lingering suspicions. As Natalie goes to fetch the needed cards, Twitch takes the opportunity to ask Michael some thinly veiled questions, such as: "Do you speak Esperanto?" and "Have you aquired any 'special' licences?", which causes Xander to quickly exclaim, "No Twitch, he's not double-O-anything! No...licence...to...kill." Fortunately, Natalie returned with the cards, preventing any further Twitch-style strangeness.
Natalie decided against the overly easy pictionary cards, opting instead to allow Ramone to fill out the cards himself since he tended to have a vast well of obscure knowledge that would help to give the players a broader field of play. Unfortunately Ramone decided to pepper the cards with the names of 80s hair bands, such as Quiet Riot, Hellmouth, and Slayer. Everyone separated into two teams: Natalie Xander and Heather on one, and Michael Beth and Twitch on the other. Michael's team was picked to go first, and Beth got the plum assignment of trying to convey the comedy stylings of Charlie Chaplan, which Michael managed to guess with scant seconds to spare on the timer. Things began to go downhill however when Xander pulled the "Slayer" card from the pile and had to try to act it out without arousing suspicions about "slayers" but failed. Heather guessed the word slayer alright, and Natalie, panicking upon hearing that word shouted, began to ramble on about never being able to guess such an obscure hair band. However, Michael's suspicions spiked once again. He asked Natalie to get him some tea which she quickly attended to in the kitchen. His turn now up, he tried to shake off his suspicions and reached his hand into the hat. As if the powers that be commanded it, when Michael reached into that hat he did not pull out "Taco", nor did he pull out "My Fair Lady" nor many of the other normal choices one could pick to act out. As Michael opened up the wad of paper to see his selection, the word "Hellmouth" appeared before his eyes.
That was the last straw.
It was then that Natalie returned with the cup of tea. As she attempted to hand it to Michael she noticed that he was stark still with a horrible grimmace on his face staring at the little piece of paper, and she asked him what was wrong. He replied by turning the piece of paper around and shoving it in front of her face, in which upon reading the contents she dropped the tea cup and it shattered on the floor. Michael's greatest fears had been realized. Natalie was not only a slayer potential, but a full fledged slayer who was being trained as well. "And which of you would be her Watcher?" he asked, turning to Xander, who stood up and claimed that title. His anger building, Michael went on to explained that he despized Watchers and why. To which Xander replied that things were now different with Rupert Giles in charge, a name which Michael recognized, giving him pause.
Xander went on to tell Michael of the upheavals that had occured in the wake of the first evil's attack upon the Watcher's council and the Slayer line including the destruction of the council itself and most of the Watchers. Shocked, Michael realized his estranged brother was dead, and his anger was replaced by shock and he decided to sit down. More explanations followed included of which the revelation of the current state of the slayer line and the presence of a Hellmouth in Huntington. Michael in turn revealed to Natalie his knowledge of her being a slayer potential since the age of 5 and his efforts to protect her from the the Watcher's Council, and more specifically from his brother, with whom he cut a deal to ensure that Natalie would stay at home under his own watch and guidance. That was when Natalie decided she should sit down herself.
Things became more clear to Michael regarding the nature of Natalie's friends. He imediately identified Twitch and Heather as researchers, Beth as some type of undead, and Ramone as a magic user. Beth, who had found herself becoming attracted to the distinguished Englishman, was embarrassed that he found her out so easily and retreated outside to the porch. Michael, noticing this, suggested that someone see to her and Twitch rushed out the door to find her sitting on one of the many large porch swings. Beth confided her concerns to Twitch. She lamented her unliving state and the fact that all her plans she had for the future would now go unrealized. Twitch reminded her that they were all living on borrowed time, and that she should come back inside and enjoy the pleasures of being her friends while she still had the oportunity before Edgar turns the world upside down. Michael, overhearing Twitch's speech, also picks up that Twitch's feelings for Beth run deeper than friendship, and he called Twitch over. Once in private Michael attempted to use a Bond style metaphor to explain to Twitch what he needed to do. Beth is both the first girl and the second girl in every bond film. Twitch, nervous but boosted by Michael's words, goes back out on the porch swing. Beth then confided to Twitch that because of her undead state she feared that no man could ever love her. Twitch tried to console her by offering her his jacket, which she first refused because her body was no longer bothered by temperature. Twitch explained to her that he was just trying to give a nice gesture, to which Beth then agreed to take the jacket and Twitch sat with her to keep her company.
Inside the mood lightened considerably, as it seemed that a huge burden had lifted off of Michael's shoulders. Yet, Natalie was now a slayer, out doing what slayers do. However, it seemed that she had many able friends to help her and was thus far from alone. Indeed things had changed. The old ways of the old council were gone.
Michael then revealed that he had in his possession items that could be of use to Natalie and her friends. Returning from his secret stash upstairs, Michael brought back a volume filled with magical lore, history, and spells. One book contained a plethora of spells that Ramone might find valuable, another was an unauthorized slayer's handbook he gave to Natalie, and to Xander he handed the journal of his great grandfather, once a very powerful watcher. Last and certainly not least he presented a trio of weapons he had aquired over the years to Natalie and her friends. One was a Naganata, a weapon that Natalie quickly claimed for herself; another was a recurve bow, and the third was a stout broadsword.
Soon it was time to go, and everyone said their farewells to Michael who was filled with both pride and trepidation as they left. The days ahead promised to be the most difficult for everyone involved.
