Dwane Stevens
The Werewolf Hunter
(Played by - Bryan)
Read Dwane's Online Journal.

Dwane and his wife Emma were a somewhat overzealous hunting team, who became somewhat well-known, thanks to articles in "Field and Stream" and "Outdoor Life". One night while hunting during a full-moon, Dwane was attacked and bitten by a large wolf-like thing. Emma immediately rushed to his aid, firing several shots that were right on the money. The creature refused to fall, but was repelled, and vanished into the night. After Tending to Dwane's wounds, the couple went to track the thing, but came up with nothing more than a set of strange tracks, which eventually faded after a few yards.

A month later, while at home, a recovered and unsuspecting Dwane underwent a horrid metamorphasis. Fortunately, Emma was able to lock Dwane in the basement rec-room, while she kept a terrified vigil at the basement door. The next morning, Dwane was seemingly back to his old self. The couple, as reluctant as they were to admit the impossibility of the situation, now realized what had happenend to Dwane and after months of research and working together they came up with several techniques to work with the change, though no cure was found. After a couple of years and a lot of work, the beast within Dwane became calmer and easer to deal with. The werewolf-Dwane became so calm and controlled, that he could roam the outdoors in a private section of their land. At last the pair thought they had finally gained a mastery over the lycanthrope curse.

The relief was to be short-lived.

One night during a full moon, the Wolf-Dwane was roaming free when he ran across some poachers. Both terrified and elated, they fired several shots at Dwane winging him a couple of times. Dwane became enraged and chased them off the land. Emma, having heard the shots, came roaring into the area only to come across the wounded Dwane. His blood-lust rekindled by the bullet-wounds, Dwane lost all semblance of control to the beast within, and as a consequence, Emma met a sad end.

The next Morning Dwane awoke to find signs of a struggle, several unknown tracks and Emma's mutilated, partially-devoured body.

Unable to recall the night's events, and unwilling to accept the possibility that he could be responsible, Dwane's rationalized that the werewolf who had bitten him finally came back to finish the job, and took Emma instead. Dwane became obsessed with hunting werewolves in his search searching for the one who had passed on its curse to him and killed his wife. Dwane Poured over every text he could find on werewolves and lycanthropy, some of which detailed movement and hunting patterns, rumors, history, and what ever else focused upon the beasts, both true and false, he even found a blurb in one of the books that if he killed the one who bit him, it would cure his curse. Through sheer willpower and determination, Dwane has gained full control over his change. Through his research he has at last managed to track the trail of the wolf that bit him, and it lead right to Cabell county, West Virginia.

Dwane met up with Mitran and the other members of the Scoodux (Scoobies Redux) gang early on, and quickly became a valuable member of the group. He proved his worth in battles against various Vampires and other Demons, most notably when he flushed out a disused passenger boxcar that was being used as the hideaway for a small gang of Vampires. Unfortunately, Dwane never did track down the Werewolf that initially cirsed him, and several lingering issues would come to a head.

When the near-immortal Warlock, Edgar Torgeir Montgomery, resurfaced after hundreds of years of extra-dimensional exile, one of his opening gambits saw him place thr group in a powerful trace where they were forced to live through their greatest fears. Though shaken, the Scoodux gang fought their way through, but Dwane was particularly traumatized by a vision of his dead wife in his freezer. Dwane stuck with the group until Edgar was defeated, but soon after he felt the need to resolve his lingering guilt, and ensure that he would never again lose control. For the next few months, he travelled, but made his home and equipment available to the group should they ever need them.

The need arrived when the Order of Aurelius made their moves against the group. As the final battles loomed, Ramone and Heather drove out to Dwane's house and found that he had arrived the night before to collect some supplies. Dwane went on to help the group during the battle of Huntington, and afterwards resumed his wanderings. Now, a year later, Dwane has returned once more, and has seemingly exocised the demons that have plagued him for so long. Only time will tell just how successful he actually was in that regard.

Personality

Dwane is best described as friendly and skilled, but driven and intense. While he's a nice-enough guy, his personal demons had far too much reign in the back of his head for many years. He's extremely knowledgeable when it comes to werewolves, survival, and hunting in general, but the nned for revenge that drove him has led him down that path so easily taken by werewolf hunters: the one that lets you forget that most of those carrying the burden of the curse are perfectly rational, normal people when the moon is less than full. The fact that Dwane himself is a werewolf made that current stance all the more ironic, and also very tragic. Eventually he came to realize the truth of this irony, and also what it was doing to him in a mental and spiritual sense. As such, he has recently forsworn his vendetta against Werewolves in general, though he won't hesitate to sanction any Lycanthropes who prove to be a genuine threat.

Skills and Abilities

Though easily the oldest member of the group, Dwane is one of the most-skilled, best-trained, and best-equipped among them. He's a good fighter, stronger than average, and in very good shape for his age. He's a deadly shot with most legal ( and a lot of illegal ) firearms, and has quite an arsenal. He's fairly wealthy, and his time as a bounty-hunter has left him with several dependable contacts, and a great deal of experience. He's all the more dangerous since gaining a high degree of mastery over his Werewolf curse. His sense of smell has become very acute, even when he's in human form. As a Werewolf, Dwane becomes superhumanly-strong, quick, and resistant to injury. He heals most injuries with frightening speed, and is only truly vulnerable to weapons made of silver.
