The Watcher (Played by - Corvus, the Director) One of the brightest and most determined Watcher trainees, the 22 year-old David graduated almost a year ahead of schedule. He's tall, handsome, smart, and daring, and what he lacks in field experience he makes up for in careful study, observation, and decisive action. He's the prototypical Watcher for the 21st century. David hails from a long line of Watchers. Not only was his father, John, a Watcher, but one of his older uncles was as well, as was his grandfather, Aaron. As a child, David displayed keen perceptive abilities that occasionally bordered on the supernatural. As such, his father, who originally never intended to press David into what had become the unofficial family business, decided that his son would someday make a superb Watcher. He began to gradually expose his son to the idea, and eventually David decided to follow in his Father's footsteps and become a Watcher himself. Unlike the cold and contentous relationships between Giles and his father (not to mention the truly strained relationship between Wesley Wyndam-Pryce and his father), John and David had always gotten along rather well, especially after David decided to become a Watcher himself, because it was something they could truly share. David's instructors found him bright and dedicated, and were highly impressed by his powers of perception, which became a focus throughout his training. While David was dedicated to the cause of the Council, he found their ways to be too inflexible and hidebound. David became determined to become something more, something better, something far more useful. Little did he realize that his way of thinking would eventually become the Council's way of thinking. Even if he had expected change, he would never have dreamed of the disaster that would eventually bring it about. As David entered the final years of his training at the Watchers Academy, John Sullivan was killed when the original Council's Headquarters was destroyed by the Harbingers of the First Evil, and the loss was keenly felt by David, who was devastated by his father's sudden death. In true English fashion, he was quick to focus that loss into a powerful sense of purpose and quickly threw himself into his work. When he graduated from the Academy, he did so at the top of his class. When the reborn Order of Aurelius made their move and revealed themselves in a series of deadly attacks, Giles was quick to suggest that David immediately assume his duties as Natalie's Watcher, albeit at Xander's side for the duration of the impeding fight against the Order's forces. David quickly proved himself to be highly capable, and by the time the Order was defeated, Xander knew that he was leaving Natalie and the City of Huntington in fine hands, even though many of the allies he had gotten to know over the past year were also leaving as well. After Xander's departure, David decided that working out of the Library wasn't really his thing. Instead, Natalie and David pooled their financial resources, and purchased the Frederick Building in downtown Huntington, allowing the current business tennants to remain where they were, along with continuing the various projects and rennovations that the previous owners had begun. Having been rather inspired by Giles' "Magic Box" example, David also opened up a business called "The Emporium" where he carried used and rare books, among other items, and this business began to serve as the HQ for Natalie and himself. Over the next year, Natalie and David developed a strong working-friendship as Slayer and Watcher, and the pair crafted a tight emotional bond based on mutual respect and trust. In battle, they became a very deadly duo as they quickly adapted to one-another's fighting-styles, and learned to work together for the greatest advantage. However, with the start of another school-year, their duo is set to expand once again, and the manner in which they have grown accustomed to operating is about to change.
David is friendly and somewhat charming in an easy-going sort of way, but he's often very quiet for long periods of time, and it quickly becomes clear that he is often most comfortable when he can slip away from the center of social gatherings and instead observe people and their behavior rather than directly participating. In that sense he very much embodies what it means to be a Watcher, and it is clear that he was born to be exactly that. That being said, David will quickly get directly involved when the situation merits, and do so in swift, decisive fashion. While he isn't impulsive, he's certainly not prone to overthinking matters either.
When David's father was killed by the actions of the First Evil, David shoved his way through the usual stages of grief, and most would say that his response was a very "British" one. However, the incident has left him with some lingering issues that could erupt into a personal vendetta if David isn't careful, and continues to avoid dealing with them in a proper manner.
David is one of the vanguards of a new breed of Watcher for the 21st century. He's highly trained and capable, and not only there to train the Natalie, but also to fight by her side whenever necessary. He has been trained to be both stern and flexible, and has also been taught the value of newer means of getting access to information, alongside the more traditional methods.
David is athletic, and well-trained in the combat arts. He displays a special flair with the Rapier and also the Katana, both of which suit his quick and rather showy style. When it comes to research into the supernatural, he's definitely someone you'd want on your side. However, what really impresses (and occasionally disturbs) most of the people David has known and/or worked with are his finely-honed powers of perception, which are so well-developed that they border on supernatural. His senses are all more acute than human norms, especially his sight and hearing. He's repeatedly displayed the ability to detect a Vampire at a mere glance, and has even uncovered Demons with the ability to change forms. He's shown an ability to see right through low-level illusions and glamors, and can even discern the presence of many purely spiritual entities. He's also really good at seeing the truth of the matter, and its really hard to pull the proverbial wool over his eyes. As impressive as these abilities are, David learned long ago to hide his perceptive prowess in most situations, lest the people around him become paranoid in his presence or seek to take unfair advantage of his abilities. As such, David can seem friendly and yet somewhat aloof around most people, unless he considers them close friends or allies, in which case he's more likely to let down his guard.
