Paranormal Investigator (Non Player Character) Dan Durkin was born in Omaha, Nebraska, but spent most of his life in Venice Beach, California. In school he was an accomplished athlete, excelling in Basketball and Wrestling. He was also known to get into a scrap here and there, and was disciplined several times for brawling. A few behavioral problems aside, Durkin was an able student, and after graduation he moved cross-country to Cleveland, where he attended Cleveland State and studied Criminal Justice. Eventually, these studies led him to apply at the State Police academy, where he graduated at the top of his class. Dan excelled as a cop in Cleveland, and over the years fell in love, got married and eventually made Detective. That's where his problems began. As a detective in a town containing one of the only known Hellmouths, Dan soon became exposed to events that were clearly beyond the pale. While this was bad enough, he eventually found evidence that there were elements within the Police Force and City Government that not only knew about supernatural murders and incidents, but also actively worked to keep such things quiet. Dan was driven to fight the evils he came across, and he did so both on and off-duty. As a result of these pressures, he eventually started drinking heavily, his job performance suffered, and his wife eventually filed for Divorce. Shaken by the downturn in his life, Dan began to make some noise within the Cleveland PD, a fuss that resulted in his suspension. When news of this suspension hit the press, Dan made some very cryptic on-camera statements during an attempted interview, an incident which led to Dan's dismissal from the CPD. Upset but otherwise undaunted, Dan became a Private Investigator, specializing in paranormal incidents. In a bit of good-fortune, several sympathetic members of the CPD did their best to give Dan a lot of leeway during his investigations, and also quietly provided information whenever possible. The work was hard, but Dan did well for himself, and eventually drew the attention of the Morningstar Foundation, a philanthropist organisation which also fought against supernatural evils in secret. Soon, one of their operatives approached Mr. Durkin and told him of the Foundation, and offered him a job. After mulling over the offer for a few days, Dan eventually accepted the position of field-researcher (agent), a move that gave him access to even more tools that he could use in his ongoing fight against the forces of darkness. His exemplary work for the Foundation in Cleveland resulted in Dan's re-assignment to Huntington, WV, which has become an important nexus-point in the battle against supernatural evils. He's already established a good working relationship with Natalie, Xander and their friends, and he's proven to be an invaluable aid thus far. Natalie and the rest will truly need his strength and experience in the days ahead.
Dan Durkin is an experienced Paranormal Investigator, and is highly dedicated to fighting supernatural evil. He is hard-hitting, fearless, and effective. He's quite strong, and skilled in street fighting, boxing, and grappling. Thanks to his years as a police officer, he's very skilled in the use of many different types of firearms. He's also a highly trained Detective, and a skilled photographer. Dan is also accomplished in the use of projectile weapons such as crossbows, and close-quarters melee weapons.
