The Characters

Naturally, the greatest part of the appeal of a role-playing game is the characters people choose to play. At its core, the fun in playing an RPG comes from the opportunity to be someone else and find yourself thrust into fantastic situations. To that end, figuring out what type of character you wish to play is crucial.

In the case of Natalie the Vampire Slayer, I decided to set the game here in town, with all new characters. The only exception to the latter was Xander, who served as a bridge between this game, and the Buffy TV series. I later decided that Xander's assignment as Natalie's Watcher wasn't really permanent, and decided that he would move on at the end of season 2. David Sullivan now serves as the campaign's Watcher, and my main NPC.

Here are the game's characters as they currently stand:

Player Characters:

Former Player Characters:

Non-Player Characters:

Chris Owens: Former MUPD officer who assisted Elizabeth Moore. Nearly became Vamp-food for his trouble, but thanks to Natalie, he escaped with his life. This incident triggered a semi-obsession with protecting the campus from Vampires, which he managed to reign in. Eventually he assisted the gang in the final battle against the Order, and he is now the right-hand-man of his friend Shawn Williams and the HPD Supernatural Crimes Taskforce.

Graham Miller: Graham was one of Riley's closest friends and fellow agents in the Initiative. He still works for the current, revamped Initiative, and was personally selected by Riley to help the Scoobies with their efforts in the Sunnydale sinkhole. Graham is a highly dedicated, career soldier, and is highly capable, with a strong sense of duty.

Dan Durkin: Local Private Eye. Originally from Cleveland, he knows a lot about the goings-on in a town rife with supernatural activity. He has sources, knows of meeting-places, and a couple of bars that cater to the otherworldly crowd. He's also an agent of the Morningstar Foundation. After the final battle against the Order, Dan moved on to a new assignment in Baltimore.

Dr. Zachary: A rather, strange, enigmatic man, Dr. Zachary isn't a man at all, but actually a member of the trouble-shooting Dohleren race. He's extremely intelligent and understanding, but quickly looses his patience when he spots intolerance, cruelty, or injustice. He's not fond of ignorance either, and he can come off as a bit arrogant.

Kennedy: Potential Vampire Slayer who became a full Slayer during the battle against the First's army. Friend to Xander, and girlfriend of Willow. Helped the scoobies defeat the Wendigo trio. Possibly the most powerful Slayer next to Buffy and Faith.

Danielle "Dani" Walksalong: A Totem-Warrior from Hammon, Oklahoma. Along with her twin brother, Robert, she came to Huntington on the trail of a trio of Wendigos, and enlisted the aid of the scoobies to help bring them down. Her animal-totem is the Raven.

Robert Walksalong: A Totem-Warrior from Hammon, Oklahoma. Along with his twin sister, Danielle, he came to Huntington on the trail of a trio of Wendigos, and enlisted the aid of the scoobies to help bring them down. His animal-totem is the Puma.

Harold, and Eugene Conley, Danielle Wilson, Reginald Deveraux, and Constance Blake: The Co-Eds of the Damned. Thanks to Mitran, they have turned away from using the occult as a quick-fix, and have rededicated themselves to their studies. They still have a fair amount of occult knowledge, and several occult contacts.

Villains:

Drusilla: Drusilla is easily one of history's most notorious and dangerous vampires. Insane, yet she possesses several psychic gifts, including pre-cognition. Sired by Angelus; Sire and former paramour of the vampire known as Spike. She is one of the few living Vampires who can claim to have killed a Slayer in hand-to-hand combat. When the Order fell, Drusilla made good her escape, and remains at-large.

Prinz Brandt: Brandt is a mysterious, reclusive Vampire-Lord living in Ruhigestadt, Bavaria. Brandt has long been obsessed with the Vampiric condition, and has read almost every available text, and watched almost every film or TV series relating to them. He has considerable knowledge, but also a bad habit of killing other Vampires, which has made him almost as despised as he is feared. He was seemingly dusted when the Order was defeated, but the crafty Brandt had actually escaped, probably alongside Drusilla.

Lyle Gorch: A notorious Vampire who can claim to have encountered Buffy twice and yet lives to tell the tale. Of course, he may not mention that the reason for his continued undeath is thanks to his ability to run away when things get too hairy. Still, Lyle was an experienced and very dangerous individual, which is why he joined the Order. However, true to form, when the battle for Huntington went south for their forces, Lyle Gorch made good his escape.

Herbert "Herbie" Wynn: Ash Williams' jealous co-worker, who studied ancient history in college…and finished up as a clerk at S-Mart. No…he's not bitter. Smythe came across Herbert a few months ago while searching for the Necronomicon. When he found out Ash had is stashed, the canny Necromancer used Herbert's jealousy (and Ash's big mouth) against him, and obtained the ancient text. Herbert is using his knowledge of Sumerian to translate the Kandharian text within the pages of the book.

Rafel Taylor: One of Nick's cronies. A would-be mystic without a prayer. Currently incarcerated for aiding and abetting a suspected felon. Briefly battled Ramone, and really shouldn't have bothered.

Pushing-Up Daises:

Varnae: The new head of the Order of Aurelius, Varnae is probably the most ancient and powerful vampire on Earth. He has been imprisoned underground in Turkey for the past 1,000 years, and was believed to be dead. Awakened by the collapse of Sunnydale's Hellmouth. Possible sire of the deceased Vampire-Lord, Kakistos. In the end, Varnae fell before the twin assault of Natalie and Buffy, using the Slayer Scythe.

Johnathan Smythe: A powerful and problematic Necromancer who has menaced the scooby gang on several ocasions during season 2. He was eventually captured, and was seemingly targeted and killed during a raid on the Western Regional Jail. However, that wasn't actually the end of him. Smythe is now one of a new breed of Vampire, one of Brandt's own bloodline, with unusual abilities. Smythe's abilities made him even more arrogant, and his overconfidence proved to be his final downfall at the hands of Calamity and Ramone.

"Calamity" Jean Farris: A young Slayer who hitchhiked her way to Huntington and brought trouble with her. Xander and Natalie eventually sent her to the Cleveland Slayer-Academy, where she went missing following a large-scale Vampire attack. She turned up again as a Vampire, one of Brandt's new breed, and got her ass handed to her by a temporarily augmented Natalie. However, before Natalie could slay her former friend, Smythe carried her off and escaped. When the gang attacked the Order's HQ, Ramone managed to give Calamity back her soul, and she perished while getting her revenge upon Smythe.

Fenris: A rare type of vampire called a Draugr, Fenris is a Dane from the Viking era. A hulking, powerful berserker, Fenris is truly a force to be reckoned with. He has lain low for hundreds of years, and his hunger for battle was at its height. However, Fenris met his match in the form of Mitran Prodan, who killed the undead warrior not once, but twice, the second time being permanent.

Itzmiquiztli: An Aztec known as the "Obsidian Death". This lightning-quick warrior cut a bloody swath through the ranks of the Spanish Conquistadors before finally being captured by them and taken to Spain. He was freed by an unknown party and turned into a Vampire. He continued his war for a time before returning to his native Mexico. He finally fell in battle with Sean Williams.

Doc: A Demon of unknown type, age, and origin, Doc was originally dedicated to the cause of the great Glorificus. However, Glory fell in battle, and the gateway that had been opened with Dawn's blood was closed by Buffy's sacrifice. Ever crafty, Doc went into hiding, going to parts unknown. He got wind of the return of Varnae, and immediately aligned himself with his cause. Spike saw this as an opportunity to settle an old score, and he finally took full advantage of it.

Elizabeth Moore: Former Scooby and Slayer wannabe who recently started going on her own vamp-hunting patrols again, with the help of Dorian Cray, who had been released from psychiatric care. Thanks to Calamity, she'd become the very thing she sought to fight against. She came to blows with Natalie during a pitched battle at Marshall's 3rd avenue parking building. However, Ramone gave Natalie a temporary power-boost, and Elizabeth soon found herself in over her head, and was dusted in spectacular fashion when Natalie tossed her from the top of the parking building, and into some high-voltage transformers.

Dorian Cray: Another former scooby with psychic powers who went a little nuts thanks to a powerful vision. He'd just begun to help Elizabeth resume her vamp-patrols. Unfortunately, he too figured into Calamity's plans, and had become the very thing he despised the most. His tenure as a vamp was short-lived, as he was wounded and soon dusted by Detective Sean Williams before he could throw a single punch.

Bert Schreiber, Kristen "Kris" Fortune, Jerry Coggin, and Pat Murphy: A quartet of rather nasty werewolves from Tennessee, hot on Jean Farris' tail, and looking to add a Slayer's skull to their collection of grisly trophies. While these folks might have seemed like complete bumpkins at first glance, they were very cunning and very dangerous, and they has complete control over their transformations. Unlike most werewolves, these people had embraced their "curse", and were remorseless murderers. A few years back, their quartet was actually a quintet, until Dwane came along and killed member number five, Earnest "Ernie" Jones as Ernie was in the act of attacking a local girl.

Nick Parker: Beth's Murderous Ex, who also killed 4 other young women in his attempt to take advantage of a prosperity spell that turned out to be fake. Ends up summoning something he didn't bargain for in the least. Missing and presumed dead.

Jean Dean: Former Huntington Mayor. Spontaneously-combusted in the parking lot of the 5th Ave. Krogers one day. Few cared.

Serena Brady, Clarence Bailey, and Richard Ashbury: Wendigo Trio. They came, they saw, they finished up dead.

Kieth Dicks, Daryl Epstien: Two of Nick's accomplaces. Beth made their necks go all bendy-wendy when she arose as a Zombie.
