Amanda Diamond
The "Former" Initiative Agent
(Played by - Crystal)

First Lieutenant Amanda Diamond is a 25-year old "Former" Agent of the Demon Research Initiative, usually referred to as "The Initiative" for short. Recent circumstances, however, have led her to rejoin the Initiative, albeit in a different capacity than before.

Amanda is the youngest of 3 children. Her father, Craig, is a retired U.S. Army officer who operated as part of the 25th Infantry Division, based out of Hawaii. He served with distinction during the Vietnam war, and during his stay there, he met and fell in love with a young woman from South Vietnam named Ha`ng, whom he felt lived up to the full-meaning of her name (angel in the full moon). As Saigon fell, Craig was forced to evacuate, but managed to make sure that Ha`ng was among the thousands of South Vietnamese evacuees before he departed. He called in a few favors and spent quite a bit of cash to get Ha`ng to Hawaii, but in the end he was successful. The pair were married soon after, and would quickly begin their family. Their first child, Dan, would arrive in July of 1976. Their second son, Minh, was born in February of 1978.

Amanda would follow in October of 1981, and quickly became the apple of her father's eye. Her parents were loving, though somewhat strict, and her life as an "Army-Brat" wasn't always an easy one. Though she learned the values of self-discipline, self-reliance, duty, courage, and honor, she also became somewhat disconnected due to the frequent changes in locale that resulted in numerous separations from close friends. As is common to the children of Military families, there were times when she'd be in the process of crafting new friendships when she'd be forced to pull up stakes and relocate once again. As a result, Amanda became somewhat insular and resisted the notion of getting too close to others in order to avoid the pain of separation. During this phase of her life, she discovered video-games, particularly first-person-shooters, and her enjoyment of these games would eventually grow into something of an addiction.

Those developments aside, Amanda was reasonably well-adjusted, and very bright and motivated to succeed. She received high marks throughout most of her school years, participated in R.O.T.C and Track-Teams, and upon her graduation she finished up being the only one of the children to follow in her father's footsteps and choose to join the Army. Eventually her hard work and zeal earned the attention of the officials in charge of the Demon Research Initiative, and Amanda would go on to become one of their field-agents, operating at home and abroad as needed. Though taken aback at the news that supernatural beings existed, she quickly recovered from the initial shock and adapted to this radical notion. She became dedicated to the Initiative's goals of analyzing and ending the HST threat.

This would change following the disastrous collapse of the Initiative's Sunnydale Operation, a development which created shockwaves within certain parts of the Pentagon, and eventually culminated in a radical re-organisation of the Initiative, including its goals and personnel. While never a part of that particular operation, Amanda nonetheless eventually heard the horror stories about how Doctor Maggie Walsh and her Agents had attempted to "domesticate" the HSTs instead of killing them outright, and worse, how Walsh had created a modern-day Frankenstein's Monster called Adam, which eventually ran amuck and proved to be her undoing. The end result was a failed operation, and the deaths of dozens of dedicated Initiative Agents and personnel.

Her faith in the system shaken, a disgusted Amanda refused to re-enlist when the time came, and retired to a comparatively mundane, civillian existence in the Corporate Security sector. However, she would later change course once more.

A few years later, a radical change in the battle of Good vs Evil would change the world. When Sunnydale collapsed, Amanda was appalled at the news, but somewhat unsurprised. After all, Sunnydale had been a nexus for supernatural events, and after what happened to the Initiative operations there, she figured it was only a matter of time before something horrible happened there. What she didn't know was that Sunnydale aside, things were looking up for the forces of right due to the activation of over two thousand Vampire Slayers all over the world. For the first time in recorded memory, the forces of darkness were compelled to sit up and take notice. The collapse of the Sunnydale Hellmouth, however, did have negative repercussions, one of which would be the reactivation of the ancient Hellmouth along the banks of the Ohio River, next to the city of Huntington, West Virginia.

Following a series of events that led to co-operation between the Initiative and a group of Paranormal Investigators led by a Slayer named Natalie Osbourne, Agent Riley Finn put forward a suggestion that the Initiative formalize relations with the new Council of Watchers, and begin a professional alliance that would be of benefit to both organisations. It took the better part of a year to hammer out the details, but eventually the Initiative and the Watchers Council crafted a deal agreeable to both parties. The Initiative would lend aid in the forms of both equipment and manpower as needed. In return, the Council would share intelligence with the Initiative to help them better understand and combat the opposition. Also, the Council would loan some volunteer Slayers to the Initiative as the need arose. Another part of the deal involved placing Agents that would act as liaisons to certain branches of the Council's operations. Huntington, with its active Hellmouth, would be one such operation in need of a liaison.

Riley Finn made Amanda his first choice as the first such Agent to be so assigned. He personally contacted her in an attempt to convince her that things had changed within the Initiative, and that her expertise was sorely needed. It took several conversations, but Riley eventually convinced Amanda to re-enlist on a trial basis, and move to Huntington to aid Natalie, and her Watcher, David Sullivan.

Amanda has not yet revealed exactly why she accepted Riley's offer. Perhaps it was out of boredom, or her sense of duty, or because she truly wished to make a difference, or even some combination of all of those possibilities. She has a tough road ahead, but she's always believed that anything worth doing wouldn't be easy.

Personality

Amanda can come off as a bit intense, yet aloof. She's something of a natural loner, and it takes her a while to warm up to others in a personal sense. She's especially fearful of romantic relationships, and is prone to beating a hasty retreat if she feels that someone she's dating is looking for something serious. Contrary to her personal life, she's more adept when it comes to professional relationships. Once she considers someone to be on her "team", she's quite loyal and honorable to that person.

On the downside, Amanda is highly addicted to First-Person-Shooter arcade, console, and PC games. She's been known to spend many hours and many quarters in video arcades, and spend even more time racking up frags at home and online. She's been known to lose track of time and miss appointments, show up late, and even miss sleep due to her obsession with these types of games. If you happen to be out shopping with Amanda, be sure to give any arcades a wide berth.

Skills and Abilities

Amanda is a highly-trained soldier who is an expert with most regulation NATO light-weapons. She's especially proficient with the M16A4, the M4 Carbine, the Benelli M1, and the Beretta 92FS. She's also handy with the Gerber Mark II combat-knife, and a variety of batons, from the expandable baton to the newer rapid-rotation models. She has a rather strict and effective workout regimen (which involves a lot of running, yoga, weight-training and kickboxing), and strives to maintain peak physical condition. Amanda speaks Vietnamese as fluently as she does English. Amanda will also beat your ass at practically any first-person shooter/combat sim on the market, and the pride-and-joy of her collecion is an actual arcade-cabinet version of "House of the Dead 4".
